What Kind of Gratitude?

What Kind of Gratitude?

Some people are naturally grateful. Others find it a challenge to consider their blessings.

Which one are you?

A grateful heart wafts through the environment and touches those who are aware of its potency. I read the other day it’s like a magnet that naturally draws people to it.

It turns out, the more grateful you are, the more things you find to be grateful for.

I first remember hearing about how people were grateful for their job, their car, their partner, etc. I thought to myself; I don’t want that kind of gratitude. I don’t want a sense of gratitude that’s tied into getting things because losing them is also a possibility.

I want the kind that prevails when I have a flat tire. When the bill collector is at the door. When my partner leaves. When situations are challenging.

I wondered if I could remain grateful for all moments of my life? There are so many times it feels like a stretch. I think this is where it comes in handy to have faith in a benevolent universe.

Things don’t always look wonderful. In hindsight, we often find it was just the thing we needed to move forward in yet unimagined ways.

I look back on moments in my life when I thought, “This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” only to find out later it was one of the best things. It changed my life for the better.

It never hurts to cultivate gratitude. You never know when a blessing comes disguised as a problem.
